Scammers send emails that look like they are from a company you do business with informing you your credit card didn’t go through. They provide links in the email for you to update your credit card information or they’ll have to cancel your order. Do not respond to these emails, do not click on links. Contact the company you do business with and see if your credit card payment is ok, or log onto your credit card and see if the payment has already been processed. They don’t know that you actually ordered goods, they pick large companies in the hopes that they will net a few victims who aren’t looking for other confirmations regarding their credit card.
The scammer wants you to think your payment didn’t go through and that you have to pay again to get it delivered to you. This scam frequently occurs during busy holiday seasons and aims to trap people who might order from places like Amazon and other major online retailers. Be aware as it is easy to get caught up in this scam.
